Fiji Day 1

with one comment

Started the day on a plane. A 10 hour flight will usually seem like an eternity but luckily I sat beside Logan. You couldn’t see any of Logans face due to the fact that he had a massive beard and never took off his sunglasses. As I talked to him I found out that he was doing essentially the same trip I was doing and that he was going to be going to New Zealand for 6 months on a visa. He also agreed to give me a reference on couchsurfing which I’m sure is going to come in handy. Then I fell asleep and we were in Fiji.
I got off the plane and the warm humid air hits you like a wall. It was also very hot and humid. I had to stand in the customs line for about an hour and when I finally got there my bag still wasn’t on the conveyor belt thing. This was when I first learned about Fiji time. Everything moves slower in Fiji and nobody seems to care because they’re in Fiji.
Smugglers Cove was impressive. As up drive up to it it seems to be stuck behind some beaten down alley way but when you walk through to the other side of the building it’s nothing but beach for literally miles around. The dorm wasn’t the nicest one but you don’t spend much time in it so it didn’t really matter. I just looked out into the Ocean and listened to music for hours before hitting going to sleep after a very very long 48 hour day.

On Nov 28th I’m going to be heading off to New Zealand for a year.  But not before I stop over in Fiji for a week where I am going to be taking part in a week long cruise around a few of the Fijian islands.  This will truly be the first time in my life where I’m going to be doing something completely alone.  Although I have planned the trip to fiji in full, when I arrive in New Zealand I have absolutely no plans as to what I’m am going to do nor do I have any clue what could happen.  My plan really is to just go with the flow and see what happens or some shit like that, hopefully meeting tons of awesome people along the way and seeing many amazing things.

I will be posting many blog entries here and pictures on my flickr during the course of my journey.  Check back whenever you want to check back.
